How to Treat Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is one of the most common health problems around the world and health care professionals are continuously reviewing how best to treat it. Putting aside the individual for a moment, millions of productive hours are lost in the workplace and, with the loss of earnings that represents, there are serious implications for national economies as many find their ability to work restricted or completely finished. This puts pressure on national agencies to set best practice standards to keep the majority of adults in productive work.

Although the UK often gets a bad press for its National Health Service, one of the more successful features of the service is the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. This agency is responsible for co-ordinating national health care planning and directing individual agencies through clinical guidelines. It reviews all the available scientific information to decide which treatments are sufficiently cost-effective to be adopted across the whole of the NHS. The idea is to ensure that everyone gets the same quality of treatment no matter where they live. More importantly, the evidence-based approach is designed to produce better patient outcomes.

NICE has just published its guidelines for the treatment of lower back pain. It treats the issue as multidisciplinary, i.e. one that should be approached using a variety of different forms of treatment supplied by different groups of health professionals. The basic assumption is that patients benefit from maintaining mobility, i.e. everyone should remain physically active. So the key recommendation is for therapists to design home-based exercise programs which run in conjunction with spinal manipulation and massage sessions at clinics and hospitals. The conclusion is that intensive exercise is the best treatment, particularly if combined with cognitive behavioral therapy to teach coping strategies and reduce depression. The evidence shows that patients who have a good understanding of their condition manage the pain more effectively and make better lives for themselves. No injections or investigations using X-rays or MRI scans are considered cost-effective.

This does not deny the use of drugs to support the exercise programs. Indeed, nursing staff are considered vital in helping patients understand how to manage the more common side effects to using medication like tramadol. Constipation can make back pain more severe so learning how to prevent the side effects from worsening the underlying problem is necessary. The focus is therefore on front-line nursing staff and therapists rather than doctors and surgeons. The aim is to show patients that back pain is not a life-threatening condition and that, within the new physical limitations, they should get on with their lives as normally as possible. Although you can get a prescription to buy tramadol and, where appropriate, more powerful pain killers, their use should be kept to a minimum. Curiously, this contrasts sharply with the doctor-led approach in the US where expensive diagnostic testing and surgery are commonly used even though there is no reliable evidence that this approach is better value to the patients. Doctors in the US are powerful and protect their status and role in delivering health care. The only common feature between the two systems is the reliance on tramadol as the first-response for pain relief. No matter where you live, doctors agree tramadol is the best.

Tomorrow is the busiest day of the week

Wherever you go on the internet, whichever newspapers and magazines you open, there's a familiar marketing message. Apparently, it's easy to lose those unwanted pounds. Yeah, right. The marketers target our insecurities. They show us "before" and "after" pictures and suggest we too can become an "after" person if we buy their product. "Just spend your dollars with us," they wheedle, "and we'll heal your pain." There are a mass of interesting assumptions in all these ads. It seems almost everyone is a target. We all want to shed pounds. That means we must all be unhappy with our current body shape. We must feel uncomfortable, perhaps even the victim of discrimination. Perhaps the health message is getting through and we begin to feel real fear of blocked-up arteries, high blood pressure and heart disease. Whatever the reason, the advertizers scent blood in the water and they are circling round our purses and wallets ready to sink their teeth into our dollars and disappear without delivering on all their promises.

Keeping this real, if it was easy to lose weight, no-one would be overweight. Everyone would have their ideal weight. What makes losing weight so difficult? We just keep putting off action to another day. As the title to this article says, "Tomorrow is the busiest day of the week". Delay makes an easy job harder. But, in the meantime, we buy those weight loss magazines and take a few pills. Hope burns eternal. We are all the victims of one of the not-so-great American myths - that we can get what we want without having to work hard for it. Just look at the tens of thousands who queue up for American Idol and the other shows to discover the next big talent. They all believe success is theirs for the asking.

So let's go back to the drawing-board. The scientific evidence shows we lose the most weight in the shortest time when we combine a calorie-reduced diet with an exercise program. That means eating smaller portions of lean meat and adding fruit, vegetables and a good source of fibre to what we eat. For this to work, there is no tomorrow. You have to live and work through every day, making a commitment and keeping it. But the "keeping" of the commitment is the problem. We often lack the will to keep going. Of course, with money in the bank, we could all hire a personal trainer. This would make us more accountable and focus our minds on the importance of regular activity. But, with the credit crunch and the priority of financial survival, a private trainer is a distant dream. So involve friends and family. Get their support. Invite them to join in. Motivation is reinforced when others are involved. And for those times when you are on your own, there's always phentermine to help you through. This is the best of the appetite suppressants and has been on the maret longer than any other competitor drug. It reduces the hunger pangs and helps you manage your body's messages to eat. With phentermine to keep your body under control, you can focus your mind on losing weight and make it work. You know it makes sense.

Safety When Disposing of Unwanted Drugs

How often have we heard the doctor say, "Remember to take the full number of tablets." but, when we feel better, we stop. It always seems such a waste. Antibiotics are expensive. We always justify keeping the half-empty bottle alongside all the others. You never know, we say to ourselves, they may come in useful. Except, they never do. So, when the day comes for clearing the shelves, what do we do with all these now unwanted drugs? In more innocent days, we might just have thrown them into the dumpster or flushed them down the toilet. Now we should think more about the consequences. Most of the trash from the dumpsters goes into landfill sites. Water washes through the mounds of rubbish, leaching all the chemicals into the ground. Over time, they move down to the water table and from there into streams and rivers. Similarly, what we flush down the toilets passes through the sewers directly into the local rivers or the nearby sea. Further downstream, river water gets taken up by the next town or city. It goes through the treatment plant and into the drinking water supply. Animals drink from the rivers and fish live in the sea. Water is used to irrigate the fields of produce. Over time, this cocktail of chemicals enters our food chain. We get to eat and drink the dilute mixture of drugs.

We should be taking care of the environment because we have to keep on living in it. If we grow tolerant of the drugs that keep us safe now, they will slowly lose their effectiveness. When we need to take them for real, they may not save us. Now add in the statistics that more people fall ill through accidental poisoning, overdoses and addiction than are injured in traffic accidents. Children are particularly at risk. As parents, we used to worry about leaving children alone in the house with bottles of liquor. Now we should be worried about leaving them in the house with bottles of pills. The younger children can mistake them for candy. The older ones may be tempted to try them to see whether they get high.

Many drugs are dangerous. Some are addictive. They should be locked safely away. If they are no longer of use, they should go from our homes. The best disposal programs are run by local police forces. They provide anonymous and secure drop-boxes where people may leave drugs for collection. The best disposal method is incineration at high temperatures. Although tramadol is not usually abused and only rarely causes problems if people take too much, it should still be disposed of safely. No matter what the drug, you should not keep it where it may be a temptation to your children or family members who have problems of addiction. So, when you buy tramadol or any other drug, you should follow your doctor's directions and take all the tablets. If you have some left over, you should ask your local police department whether it has a disposal program. Should there be nothing arranged locally, be responsible in your disposal method. Our ecology links everything together and we should be aiming to leave a safe environment for our children.

Push up as a Symbol of Health

Did you know that push-up is a symbol of health? Push-ups are used as the simplest, fastest and easiest barometer of fitness. Push-ups can be to test the whole body, regulate the muscles of the arms, chest, abdomen, hips, and legs.

Push-ups require body tense as a board with toes and palms on the floor. Movements such as lifting the body require strength and excellent resistance to movement of push-ups many times.

Many people cannot do push-ups. Most of the health and fitness experts’ fitness focuses on upper body, such as aerobics that emphasizes cardiovascular fitness (heart and blood vessels).

Push-ups are also important for older people. The ability to do push-ups more than once with a perfect attitude is an indicator of the capacity to counteract the effects of aging. Researchers who study the aging bio-mechanics noted that the push-ups could provide muscle strength and ability to hold when the body fell.

If someone fell forward, he will defend himself so will result in a movement similar to the push-ups. Hand touching the floor, his wrists and arms absorb the impact of falls, the position of the elbow bent slightly to reduce the force because of falling.

What do you know about yoghurt drinks and weight loss?

There has been an interesting shift in newspaper journalism. In the good old days, it used to be all about the news. Now the stories are encased in bubble wrap so nothing can cause offense. Everything has two sides and, to achieve balance, both sides must be given equal prominence. Except when it comes to stories that might boost the sales of the corporations buying ad space in the newspapers and magazines. In these stories, readers are given only the bright side - the side that sells the products or services. Who needs balance when it builds the profits of a good customer. Which brings us to the coverage of probiotic yoghurt drinks. Here everything is sunshine and light. Did you know there are bacteria living in your stomach? Wow, tell me more. It's probable these bugs are what makes us fat!

This story is connected with the research being carried out at the Schools of Medicine at Washington University and the University of Colorado. This is a perfectly respectable project with funds provided by the National Institutes of Health. Their latest papers were published through the peer review system and are legitimate. But they do not conclude that high-fat diets and sugar cause obesity and the research does not mention any of the probiotics. In fact, the project experiments on the microbes in the guts of mice. It may be scaled up to humans in the future. But, for now, the researchers colonize "ordinary" mice with human microbes and then feed half a low-fat diet. The other half receives a traditional Western high-fat, high-sugar diet. Not surprisingly, the mice eating the Western diet gain weight. When the microbes from the fat mice are transferred to thin mice, the thin mice gain weight. It seems the Western diet transform the microbes into new varieties encouraging weight gain in any mouse.

There is much to follow up in this research but, just to be clear, there is no suggestion that the same diet changes the microbes in human guts nor that eating yoghurt will cause weight loss. The way the story has been presented misrepresents the science to sell the named probiotic drinks. In fact, there is no evidence published in any peer-reviewed journal to suggest that yoghurt changes a bad diet into a healthy diet. The only way to lose weight remains eating a healthy balanced diet alongside a regular program of exercise. If you find yourself feeling hungry while eating healthy food and working out in the gym, use phentermine - the only drug with a fifty year track record for suppressing your appetite. This drug has proved to be a miracle worker in being able to modify the messages coming out of the stomach and calming down the call for more food. So, to keep your motivation high when dieting, buy phentermine and feel satisfied with smaller portions. Continued over several months, you will find the weight dropping away and a new healthy body emerging. This is hard work but it pays off. Trust what you read in the newspapers about probiotics and the only thing you lose is your hard-earned dollars.

The old ways are the only game in town

This October saw yet another medical device fail in a high-profile clinical trial. Alongside the pharmaceutical industry, manufacturers have been designing devices to help people lose weight. Why? Well, with obesity reaching epidemic proportions around the world, there are millions of people "out there" waiting to buy something that will help them shed unwanted pounds. Everyone wants a quick and easy solution to an age-old problem: how do you lose weight without any change in your lifestyle? Everyone wants to keep on eating without paying the price in extra pounds. Unfortunately, just as there's no sign of a magic bullet drug that will burn away those unwanted pounds, the latest scientific implant has also failed. It has been deja vu all over again. The pre-trial hype claimed this revolutionary device would use technology to suppress appetite. If people do not feel hungry, they will eat less and lose weight. The result? The device proved absolutely safe. Why? Probably because the device had no measurable effect on the bodies of those who tried it out.

This latest failure forces everyone back to the real world. There are no drugs in the development pipeline to save people from themselves. There are no magic machines you can wave over your body or have a surgeon implant. The only way to lose weight is to eat a sensible diet and exercise. The hard rule is that you have to burn more calories than you eat. In the stock exchange, the share price of the latest manufacturer to claim a miracle treatment fell by almost 80% when the news of failure was announced. Reading this, your spirits have also fallen sharply. This is sad news. Indeed, this is why most people fail to lose weight. They get depressed when weight does not fall off. They give up the "unequal struggle" with their waistlines. The necessary lifestyle changes never materialize.

The problem starts when you're young. You're surrounded by unhealthy food and it comes in giant portions. Worse, your parents now have the money to pay for this food. Go back fifty years and there was less money around. Parents struggled to put food on the table. Most people grew up thin. By a curious coincidence, fifty years ago saw the release of phentermine into the weight loss market. This was a revolutionary drug designed to reduce appetite. Now that the world desperately needs a way to help people lose weight, phentermine is still the drug of choice. Except there's just one small problem. All phentermine does is to reduce your appetite. This leaves you with the hard lifting. You still have to change your eating habits and eat smaller portions of healthier food. The most weight will only be lost if you also exercise. The need is still to burn more calories than you eat. If your lifestyle remains the same, you will fail even though the drug has an unbeatable track record - fifty years of safe and effective treatment.

Are men and women the same when it comes to pain?

In these more modern times of gender equality, it may not be politically correct to talk about differences between men and women. Unfortunately, the medical profession cannot ignore the increasing volume of scientific evidence that there are important differences, particularly when it comes to pain management. In this, it is important to distinguish between biological sex and gender. There are visual tests for the presence or absence of reproductive organs, and lab tests for chromosomes that help to say whether this is a man or woman. Gender, on the other hand, is a list of the social roles society defines for people. This can be complicated when people choose to act or behave in ways considered more appropriate for the opposite sex. As an example of the problem, you only have to look at the complaints that Caster Semenya is not a woman. How can this muscular person from South Africa suddenly beat the word record for the 800m by one second and be a woman?

The last decade has seen a rapid rise in the volume of research into gender differences in the response to pain. There is clear evidence that women are more likely to consult a doctor about pain and to take drugs to relieve that pain. As a result, the national statistics show more women than men suffering from the more common medical conditions causing pain such as arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, etc. In tests involving healthy volunteers, women are more likely to report higher levels of pain than men. This applies regardless of the other factors of age, race, ethnicity and religion. Interestingly, brain scans have shown that pain affects different parts of the brain. In women, the limbic area which also affects emotions is stimulated more than in men.

The speculation is that the differences in brain activity flow from early human development. Men were the stronger group with responsibility to fight to defend the community. This means being prepared to accept pain. Women were expected to respond to danger by nurturing and protecting the young, running away if necessary. Today, men remain less willing to admit to feeling pain and are reluctant to seek medical help. It does not matter whether this is a biological or gender difference, the statistical evidence for this unwillingness to seek help is absolutely clear. But, equally clear is that tramadol relieves the pain of both a macho man and an emotional woman. Even though there may be gender differences, the biological effect of tramadol is the same on a human body. It relieves moderate to severe pain. So, perhaps it is time for all men suffering in silence to overcome the cultural conditioning that threatens their self-esteem if they admit to pain. Once you have clearance from your local healthcare provider that there are no problems in you taking this drug, go online and buy tramadol from the privacy of your own home. This relieves the pain and preserves your image.

Don't suffer from pain in vain!

Pain is what disturbs us from normal existence. Pain killers are the medications people spend most money on due to their effectiveness and hope that the pain will go away. Severe pain is the reason why most of us stop ourselves from living our ordinary life as nothing seems the same when you are unwell. Most medical assistants, who you may address, will tell you that toleration of the pain is not an option. Therefore they will prescribe a good drug to you in order for you to stop suffering. But before we go any further, let's talk about the severe pain relievers in general and discuss their effects on the body.

What is the most important fact that one needs to know about any pain-killer? Well, first of all, it has to be the fact that it is strictly forbidden for those who have allergies especially people allergic to alcoholic drinks and medication in general. Usually when taken out of proportion without previous examination, it is dangerous and risky in its actions. The normal average dose that one can consume without getting into trouble is 300 mg per day. But that, of course, depends on the drug you are about to take. Don't think it is alright to do it with any pill at all. All pain-killers are sold with prescription only. Your doctor will have to examine you good to make sure the drug is right for you.

There are many cases known when individuals consumed drugs that they were not supposed to consume and due to the fact that addiction can bring anxiety, depression and disorders to your life, so think before you go any further with drugs. It is also important to remember that if you happen to be allergic to pain-killing medication or if you have liver disease, kidney problem or mental illness you should avoid the pill. Or if it is the only thing that may help you get rid of your pain - please talk to your specialist in the hospital about the dose. You will probably have to take the reduced dosage. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are not allowed to take any of this medication as it affects the unborn baby in a harmful way. Teenagers under 18 years of age are forbidden to take most of the pain-killers that are meant to treat severe pain

Pain-killers can really work miracles. Tramadol happens to be a good, working drug that can guarantee you a good result. This is a well-known fact. But you have to be careful with it as well as other drugs. Usually pain-relief pills not do always require food as they can go with it as well as without it. Try to not miss any doses and take the pill at the same time everyday. If you are willing to change something in your medical schedule please inform your doctor about it before any problems occur. If it happened so that you missed a dose and your doctor is out of reach, please remember to skip it and take the next one the same time as you took the last one. Don't try to keep up with the drug, rushing into it. It can only do worse. If you have some of the following symptoms after the consumption of any pain relief drugs you have to know you are overdosed. Slow heartbeat, light headed feeling, extreme weakness, fainting or coma are among those that can take your health state to hell. In some, rare cases, overdose can be fatal.

Tramadol is the pain-killing pill that has the appraisals of the most renowned specialists around the world. Nowadays it became very easy to buy the drug in every country just using various online services. Buy Tramadol and say goodbye to pain forever!

The holiday eating season is here again

Well, all the Christmas lights and decorations have started to appear in our local malls. The competition is really hot this year. Retailers have been suffering because of the credit crunch so they started the campaign to get us to spend our hard-earned dollars really early. But, of course, we first have to get through Thanksgiving. And don't forget about your health! In the good old days, those Pilgrims had an easy ride when it comes to weight loss. There was little food to last through each year so the idea of celebrating a successful harvest with a feast made sense. Filling up the store houses with grains and cereals really was the difference between life and death. So getting the family together was a way of boosting morale as everyone faced the hardships of the winter to come. Oh, and everyone was as thin as a rake. Today, the story could not be more different. It's not just the turkeys putting on the pounds for the festive season. We spend the year eating just that little bit too much, not counting the calories and giving in to temptations. At best, our weight stays the same but, more often, it rises slowly but steadily. Then along comes Thanksgiving and Christmas when everyone is expected to binge on more food.

Social gatherings are mixed blessings. It's good to see everyone and, when they all start eating and drinking together, it makes for a special event as we catch up with news, celebrate all the recent successes and bitch about all the problems. This hides all the hard work that went into making all the food and all the discomfort that comes afterwards - in particular that bloated feeling. There's another sad truth. When months go by between visits, we forget each other's look. It can be a surprise when the door opens and a slightly more overweight figure walks in. This can affect how much we enjoy the holiday. Everything about us is wrapped up in how we feel about ourselves and the others we love. The amount of energy we have and level of self-confidence we feel is dictated by how we look. It impacts the choice of clothes to wear, the places to go, and so on. A recent study by the University of Washington found an emerging majority of people do not want these extra pounds. Attitudes are changing with the overweight coming bottom on a scale of sexual attractiveness.

So unless you want to feel really bad about yourself in the New Year, start an active diet right now. The world is going to expect you to overeat on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Start losing some weight now. That way, you will emerge from the binge at the same weight and not carrying even more. That means a calorie-reduced diet starting today. If you feel hungry, buy phentermine, the one appetite suppressant that has stayed fit and active throughout the years. Launched fifty years ago, phentermine has seen off all its rivals as the drug most likely to keep morale high and those weight loss blues away.

Latest Researches on Acupuncture

In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture has been used as a safe and effective form of treatment for centuries. The Western medical profession has always been sceptical about the medicinal effectiveness of sticking needles into people stating that all that works in this case is placebo effect. But a recent clinical trial reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine this May, has produced new evidence that may prompt a more general re-evaluation of the technique for the management of pain. The Group Health Center for Health Studies recruited some 640 people suffering from back pain. It is often difficult to make a precise diagnosis of the causes of pain in the back. People report a range of non-specific symptoms.

Many doctors are therefore trying a wide range of different therapies to see which produce the best results in relieving pain symptoms. Randomly dividing the recruits into four groups of 160, the volunteers were given genuine acupuncture, simulated acupuncture by pricking the skin with toothpicks in the correct locations, were randomly pricked with real needles, and were given conventional physical therapy. Therefore we obtain one genuine form of acupuncture, two kinds of placebo and conventional treatment.

The treatment in all four cases administered ten sessions over a seven week period. There were follow-up interviews to assess each patient's quality of life at 2, 6 and 12 months after the end of the treatment. About 60% of those who received one of the three versions of acupuncture reported significant improvement in mobility at all three interview. Only 40-50% of those who received a conventional Western form of treatment reported improvement. It seems that prodding someone with a toothpick is just as effective as actually inserting needles. This tends to confirm earlier research findings that social contact with the individuals administering the treatment is just as important as the treatment being administered. If the patient/therapist relationship is good, people derive benefit from the sessions.

This leaves the latest research findings uncertain. There was no clear evidence showing that "real" acupuncture is better than "fake" acupuncture. The way the mind and the body interact to create, send and understand pain messages is complicated. Medical science is making progress but, when it comes to back pain, it seems that both conventional and unconventional therapies can be equally effective because of the placebo effect. In the case of drugs, however, clinical trials have produced very clear evidence that they do work to reduce pain.

For moderate to severe pain, the use of tramadol has consistently been shown safe and effective. This has been confirmed by millions of patients around the world. But note the numbers from this latest study: 60% of those who received any version of acupuncture reported a good quality of life after 12 months. No matter how it works, it does reduce the pain and improve the mobility. So alongside the drive to buy tramadol, talk with your doctor about acupuncture or any of the other forms of therapy. While tramadol does work, it is not good to depend on it. Finding an alternative but effective form of treatment is the best long-term solution.

Advantages of Hair Drug Testing

There are many reasons that you may end up being required to undergo drug testing. If you are applying for a new job, your prospective employer may ask that undergo a hair follicle drug test to ensure that you are drug-free. The numerous physical and psychological problems associated with taking drugs can cause problems with a person's ability to perform job-related tasks.

Many amateur and professional athletes are also required to have drug tests, as taking certain kinds of drugs can give you them an unfair competitive advantage and adversely affect their health. Many of today's parents are even resorting to making their children submit to hair drug testing if they are concerned that they may be taking drugs.

Out of all the available methods, a hair follicle drug test is one of the easiest types of drug testing. The only requirement is that a person submits a simple sample of their hair, which is very easy to do. After a hair sample is collected, it is mailed in a sealed envelope to a lab to be tested.

Another advantage of using hair drug testing is the fact that it can be used to detect drug use for as many as 90 days. Therefore, the results of the test will still show up as positive, even if an individual has taken drugs approximately 3 months earlier. Other tests such as urine and saliva tests are very different and can only determine if an individual has taken drugs within a time frame of a few days. The significantly longer time span in which drugs can be detected is possible because of the tiny amount of drug chemicals that become embedded within each strand of an individual's hair.

In addition, hair drug testing is faster and more accurate than almost any other type of drug test. Compared to other available types of drug tests, the accuracy of a hair follicle drug test can be ten times higher. This makes it a preferred choice for many individuals, companies and coaches who want to ensure that the results they receive are completely accurate.

Yet another advantage of hair testing is the fact that it is completely confidential. There are no saliva or urine tests, which can often be embarrassing for individuals to submit. All that is required is several hair strands to produce very accurate results.

What is Pain Management?

In a simple case where you have had an accident and, perhaps, broken a bone, there will be acute pain lasting for a reasonably short period of time. Under normal circumstances, these physical injuries heal and the pain goes away. But, unfortunately, there are many medical conditions where the pain does not go silently into the night. In cases of chronic pain, you and the doctors advising you have to come up with strategies to help you cope - to make the best of your life under difficult circumstances. Now, the medical profession has recognized that, independently of the underlying cause, pain itself is something to be treated. To do so, there are a range of different techniques, including:

  • the use of drugs;
  • different kinds of physical therapy, counseling and psychological support;
  • acupuncture and forms of treatment slightly outside the bounds of conventional Western medicine; and
  • surgery and other forms of procedures to intervene and relieve.
There is a distinction in the type of pain. Some is classified as nociceptive. Here the nervous system is properly identifying the source of the pain as a specific injury or particular point in the body. The symptoms group into radicular and somatic, depending on where the person feels the pain. The pain is said to be neuropathic when the nervous system is not working as it should, i.e. there is no obvious cause for the pain, but the brain insists that there is an injury in a particular place. This type of pain is more difficult to treat because the underlying cause is more difficult to diagnose.

The problem in every case is to decide the best approach. Not everyone reacts to the underlying medical cause in the same way. There are varying degrees of pain and people respond to that pain in slightly different ways. Some are more accepting. Others grow depressed and turn themselves into invalids. So all pain management decisions start with a review of the individual's medical history, asking what has been and can be done to treat the underlying cause, what level of pain intensity the person feels, whether the person has a positive or negative mental attitude, and so on. It is possible that more tests may need to be performed. If targeted surgery or other forms of intervention might relieve the pain, this should be tried first.

While waiting for a specific diagnosis or for the treatments to begin, it is probably appropriate to use one of the standard drugs to control the pain. The best drug is tramadol and it is most commonly prescribed to treat moderate to severe pain across a wide range of cases. You should not self-medicate, i.e. do not go online and buy tramadol without first having a doctor check you out and make sure that it is safe for you to take this drug. You should also not resort to the pill bottle every time you have pain. At an early point, you should have effective treatment either for the underlying cause or for the pain itself and live without using drugs as much or at all.

Genetics and Weight Loss

Look around the bookshops and read some of the reviews for the latest books on weight loss and there's a new buzzword on offer. It seems the genes you inherit from your parents change the way your body absorbs fat and carbohydrates. Gone are the days when a one-size-fits-all diet would sell like the proverbial hot cakes. Now we are into the idea of personalized diets with DNA kits and gene testing offered as the way of designing the most effective way for you to lose those unwanted pounds. Except, there's no science to support any of these claims. Myths help separate you from your money. The truth remains boring and does not sell many books.

Let's start with the facts. The science of genetics has been around for centuries. Farmers, sports fans and governments have been selectively breeding animals for their taste, speed or killing abilities. The results can be seen everywhere you buy food, on the race track, in the police and military compounds, and so on. There's nothing new in aiming to select characteristics to transmit through the generations. And that's where the science stops and the science fiction takes over. Although some scientists can now identify individual genes that may contribute to different characteristics, there's no such thing as gene splicing - no designer babies for us humans to order - and no proven link between any combination of genes and human body weight.

Human body chemistry stays the same no matter what genetic make-up you have. What does change, and sometimes quite dramatically, is behavior. If you travel back to a time when people ate less processed food in smaller quantities, you find most children grew up thin. Now look around. Children are surrounded by peers and authority figures who all eat large portions of unhealthy processed food and the children get overweight. This has nothing to do with genetics. This is socialisation in a country that eats too much unhealthy food.

Using genetics is an excuse when people fail to keep to a diet. They claim they cannot lose weight because their genes make them big. They are then suckered when they see claims that only by paying for gene testing can an effective diet be devised for them. This is a sad state of affairs. You can only lose weight by making lifestyle changes. You have to eat less and exercise more. If you feel hungry when you start a diet, a drug like phentermine is available to control the hunger pangs. For some fifty years people buy phentermine and it remains the scientifically proven way of controlling your appetite. So long as you avoid feeling hungry, it's easy to stay on the diet and feel the weight fall away. Overall, you are following a simple rule. So long as you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight. If this means increasing your activity rate, rise from your couch and go for regular brisk walks. A calorie-reduced diet combined with exercise and supported by phentermine is the one-size fits-all-genetic types approach to weight loss.

Unemployment and Weight

Let's start with the downside. You picked up the dreaded pink slip. This did not do wonders for your self-esteem. You then looked around the job market and found precisely no jobs. It seems every employer has given up the idea of expansion. They are all hunkered down waiting for the recession to end. Only when all we consumers get back out into the malls and start spending again will the wheels of manufacturing and commerce start turning again. Until then, it's the survival of the fittest - my apologies for mentioning Darwin, but it seems appropriate when applied the the species of employer. So with self-esteem on the floor and depression lurking in the corner of your mind wondering whether it should come out and join the party, it's all too easy to slip into really bad habits. You become one of the dreaded couch potatoes, suddenly fascinated by the offerings of daytime TV. With nothing else to occupy yourself, you snack and hit the soda bottles. The results show in the first month. With a job and all the exercise of getting out of the house and running round to earn a living, you were reasonably thin. Now you are unoccupied, you find your waist growing and everything else starting to sag. It occurs to you that this may not help you find another job when the market improves. There's a lot of discrimination out there and, with a choice between thinner and fatter candidates for a job, employers tend to pick the thinner ones because they are less likely to have health problems.

So let's turn this around. Now you are unemployed, you have the time to do something about those extra pounds. When you were working full time, the work was always a convenient excuse. There were just not enough hours in the day. You were tired when you got home. You needed the weekend for quality time with the family. We have all played this game. Well, no more! This is your chance to begin a daily routine of exercise. If you have a gym membership, start working out. Talk to the trainers and get them to devise a good set of programs to help you lose some of that weight. If the cost of gym membership is too much, do not let this be another excuse. Outside your home there is an endless supply of exercise equipment. It's called the sidewalk. Dress appropriately and start walking. Find slopes and then hills. Never mind the strange and pitying looks you get from drivers. Walking is one of the best all-round forms of exercise.

This should go hand-in-hand with a calorie-controlled diet. You defeat the purpose if you exercise, feel hungry and then eat more. Put smaller portions of healthy food on your plate. Cut out snacks and stop drinking soda altogether. Remember why you are doing this. It's your chance to finally lose some weight and get really healthy. It will lift your mood and, more importantly, help you find another job. If hunger is a problem, use phentermine. This is the best appetite suppressant on the market. With those hunger pangs banished, it's easy to keep the motivation going. The pounds will steadily disappear and a new, more confident you will emerge. Buy phentermine online and get your weight loss program underway. Unemployment is too good a chance to miss.

How to Manage Pain Effectively

Throughout our lives we often have to deal with pain in its various forms. It can be a small injury or a serious trauma, it can be a light headache or a strong back pain, it can wear off in minutes and last for years. Pain follows us throughout our lives and never leaves us to be careless about what we are doing. Of course, there's nothing pleasant about pain but if we were unable to feel pain the world would be much more of a stranger place for us where surviving would be much harder for the whole humankind. Pain simply tells us that something is wrong, whether within our body or outside of it that is dangerous and harmful. Imagine world without pain - yes it would be a very good place for a couple of minutes until you are exposed to something harmful, not feeling it, and simply die. Yes, pain is that important.

However pain can certainly make you wish you were dead, especially when it's severe and chronic. That is why people throughout centuries have been developing ways of treating pain. From herbs to Tramadol, from cold objects to cognitive therapy there are numerous ways you can manage pain. But before trying to overcome pain, you first have to understand what pain really is. It is not a medical condition by itself, pain is only a symptom, a signal that something is wrong in the body. And if in case of an injury the cause is evident, quite often pain signals that there are underlying health problems that have to be treated, which the person was not aware of. And this is one of the most effective ways to overcome pain - treating the condition causing it. Chronic pain is the type of pain that is most commonly observed in cases of an underlying medical condition. Acute pain usually results from injuries and typically fades away over a short period of time. Chronic pain, as you can guess from the name, persists for longer periods of time, which in some cases spread over days, months and even years.

Having two types of pain means that there are two different approaches. In case of mild or medium acute pain resulted from an injury you can simply use a cold object over the area of impact to calm the pain down. In cases of severe acute pain people usually take strong analgesics such as narcotics that act immediately and are not to be used repetitive.

When you deal with chronic pain, different types of pain management are employed. Suffering from chronic pains makes it impossible for strong narcotic painkillers to be used because of their heavy side-effects that make the remedy worse than the disease. Instead doctors usually prescribe drugs such as Tramadol to help patients cope with pain. Besides, as we already know, chronic pain results from various medical conditions within the body, thus treating them usually leads to pain relief. But in case that doesn't help, there are numerous drugs and therapies you can use to overcome pain. Make sure to talk about it with your doctor who may recommend you with the most appropriate type of treatment for your case.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

The marketers are out in force these days. They want to convince everyone that there is a pill to cure all ills. Oral medications are convenient for the patient. Just swallow and wait for results. They are profitable for the doctors because it takes only a minute to write out a prescription and wheel in the next patient. If you have to talk to the patients, this is fewer patients per day and less profit.

It's great for the pharmaceutical industry. Just press the "go" button on the machines in the factory to make the pills and watch the money roll into the bank account. But, as a country, do we really want everyone to be dependent on pills? Surely there must be a better way of delivering treatment to those who need it. Well, in the question lies the answer. The most effective treatments deal with the patient as a human being with a problem instead of a piece of meat to be pacified and sent away with a pill. This is not to say that pills cannot and do not provide effective relief. The drugs used to treat anxiety are safe and effective. But all the major clinical trials show that CBT produces better results than drugs. So what is CBT?

If you have an anxiety disorder, you should be the focus of attention. You need to move from a negative mindset to a positive outlook on life. Let's take each of the letters in turn:

C = cognitive. Cognition is the process of thinking. It deals with beliefs, opinions and all the other emotions and ideas that run around inside our heads. The problem with anxiety is that you see the future and fear the worst. It's great to have foresight. It helps you avoid danger. But you need a sense of proportion. Not everything is really dangerous, not everything has to be perfect, so you need to learn new priorities. Stop the automatic fear response. Slow down and think about the world more carefully. With a little determination, you can be more focused, avoid anger and frustration, and build a better outlook.

B= behavior. This is what you do and this is your chance to put that new world view into practice. When you have learned the new skills of relaxation, you have to confront the real-world situations where you have felt anxious. No more hiding away. You have to destress, grow calm and find peace as you try to reach your goals.

T = therapy where a guide teaches you coping skills so you can heal and recover from all that negative emotion and find new purpose and optimism. This is not teaching you to be less anxious. It's teaching you to be more self-confident.

Nothing in CBT denies a role for xanax. It's a great drug for the relief of anxiety over the short term. In fact, using xanax helps to calm your mind and make you more responsive to the therapy. As your mind slowly changes around to a positive way of thinking, you can ease off on the drug and allow yourself to start living life afresh. Let your new self-confidence crowd out the old fears and leave your mind calm.
